Over the last year we have had a desire to be more intentional with the spiritual formation of men at Ocean View. Much of our discipleship has been informal but we have found a program that we would like to test to see if it would be suited to formalize our “Men’s Spiritual Formation.” The program is called “Man Year” and in essence, it is a small group of men (3-5 guys) who will commit themselves to walking with Jesus, sharing their successes, weakness, and failures, setting goals, and following through on those goals with their group for an entire year.
The program features four quarterly areas of focus – spiritual, physical, emotional, and mental. Daily Bible reading, prayer, self-reflection through journaling, and goal-setting are all part of the formation process. I would guess-imate the time commitment of 30 minutes per day depending on that quarters focus. We will also physically meet with our group once/month and connect with weekly text/phone check-ins.
I would like to invite you to commit to the group that I will be leading. The program stresses “commitment,” so I understand that this might not be the right time for you to undertake such a commitment; thus, I would like you to look through the first month’s activities to see if you have the time and availability to join in. The program and myself also encourages participants to lead 2-3 men the following year through the same material.
The cost for the year is $199.00, of which the church will contribute $100 towards you signing-up. You can access the first month material through the link below. You will also receive a hard copy of the material at the first meeting.
We will have an initial meeting on Wednesday, February 26th from 8:00-9:00pm.
